I first began working with Tracie in October of 2012. I’d heard about her several months before that but wondered why working with her would be any different. I, like everyone else, had heard so much conflicting nutrition information over the years and wasn’t convinced Tracie would tell me anything I didn’t already know. In the past, I had listened to what I thought was “sound” nutrition advice…and somehow gained weight versus losing it.
I started a Fit Moms for Life program that included Tracie’s meal plans for 2 weeks and finally saw the scale move in the right direction. I thought okay; maybe she does know something I don’t. I did my fair share of research into who I should work with before I signed on with Tracie. I’ll be the first to admit that I was a bit embarrassed to say I needed the help of a nutritionist. I figured I should know how to lose weight and the fact that I didn’t know how to do it on my own was frustrating, to say the least. But once I began to see changes after using Tracie’s meal plans for only 2 weeks, I knew I needed to learn more.
My goal wasn’t only to lose weight; I wanted to learn how to make lifestyle changes that would help me look and feel better. Prior to working with Tracie I realized I had been doing a lot of things wrong that I thought were right. I was eating low fat and low sodium foods; I rarely ate snacks or desserts; and I knew the portion sizes we’re served or that I bought at a store were “incorrect”, but I never took the time to make sure my meals had the accurate portions or were balanced.
Once I started implementing the things Tracie was teaching me, I began to see several changes take place. Prior to working with her, I had some fairly significant health issues that only seemed to be getting worse:
- I had swelling in my legs
- Bloating, stomach pain and digestive problems
- No energy
- Frequent headaches
- Cold hands and feet
- Food cravings
- Painful menstrual cycles
- And dry skin
Within 2 weeks of working with Tracie one-on-one, the bloating, stomach pain and digestive issues went away. That motivated me to continue implementing what she was teaching me and within 4-6 weeks, the rest of my symptoms pretty much dissolved. I finally had energy and slept well for the first time in a long while.
Working with Tracie just felt right and it made sense. She actually teaches you the “why” behind what she tells you to do and gives you choices. Tracie doesn’t judge you and understands that health problems don’t develop overnight, so reversing them can take a little time.
I have made a lot of changes with respect to my diet and am now using coconut oil, gelatin, and broth. I’m also eating foods that are not full of PUFAs (polyunsaturated fats). I live in a small rural town, so I know how hard it can be to only purchase products that are natural. I spend time planning my meals for the week so that I can do my shopping in Madison on my way home from work. This way it is easier for me to get the foods I need. I also spend one day cooking and getting food portioned out for the week, usually Saturday or Sunday, which did take a little getting used to, but makes meal planning so much easier and less stressful once you get the hang of it. I won’t lie; there have certainly been challenges along the way. The changes I have made have totally been worth it, but it does take some planning and you do have to make and take the time to switch from eating “easy food” to “real food”.
The hardest part for me has been sticking to the foods that are good for me versus the foods I had gotten used to eating in the past. As they say, old habits die hard, and I am no exception. I also have children and my next goal is to start implementing some of these strategies into their diets as well. I know this will be a bigger challenge because the way kids eat these days is terrible quite frankly, thanks to advertising, busy schedules, and both parents often needing to work full time jobs. It isn’t always easy to make changes to your life and/or your family’s, but the results I’ve seen personally have helped me realize just how important it is for us to all be healthy together.
I have stuck with it and I am proud to say that to date, I have lost 32 pounds and feel so much better! It does take some effort and you do need to understand how making lifestyle changes affects you inside and out, but it is so well worth it. I am currently working two jobs—one full time and the other part time—and have two children, so I figure that if I can do it, anyone can! We only get this one life and I don’t want to spend mine wishing I looked or felt different any longer. If you’re ready to change your life, then I highly suggest working with Tracie…trust me, you won’t regret it!
