Are you wondering, “Where the heck should I go out to eat and what should I order?” I must admit, this question is getting harder to answer because many restaurants serve poor quality food, especially here in the land of fish fries and bar burgers. As you all know, my nutrition guidelines are all about eating local and knowing where your food comes from, so I always recommend eating a Sustain-a-burger when dining at the Great Dane. Here’s its description from the menu: “Help support local farms with an Otter Creek Farm’s organic beef patty or a Heartland Bison Farm’s buffalo patty. Topped with raw milk pesto cheddar from Otter Creek and Renaissance Farms. Served on a toasted multi-grain bun with organic micro greens, thick cut tomato and a side of our mushroom gravy.” It’s $9.25.
I order the bison burger without the bun, light on the gravy. I also ask for a side order of apple sauce. What makes this meal great is that it’s a perfect balance of protein (burger), fat (burger and a touch of gravy) and carbohydrates (vegetables on the burger and apple sauce). It’s yummy, but should also keep you satisfied. And, you’re supporting local farms, which should make you feel good.
I’ll be sure to post other ideas for dining out here so keep checking back. Enjoy!
